Ride Report: Colorado Rockies Part 2

This is part 2 of the story, and part 1 can be found here

After a weekend of working by day, and fixing my Valk by night it was finally time to depart for the mountains. Raymond and Rhonda had spent the weekend at my place, so on Monday morning we headed out on our journey. The first stop would be Seiling, Ok to top off the fuel tanks and meet up with Buzz from Edmond. The route out of Oklahoma would be the Northwest Passage that took us west through the length of the Oklahoma Panhandle. As usual in the Oklahoma panhandle, the wind was rather brisk and combined with our pace nocked the fuel mileage down somewhat. By the time we stopped for lunch in Clayton, NM Raymond was complaining about the low fuel mileage and cost of fuel. Rhonda agreed to work overtime when they got back to pay for the extra fuel cost. Since she works on a fixed salary with no overtime pay, Raymond didn’t seem to be too convinced. Buzz was riding his 2 cylinder BMW, and while getting 40+mpg didn’t seem to understand what all the fuss was about….

Ride Report: Colorado Rockies Part 1

It was a beautiful September afternoon, a Thursday to be exact, and my last day off before going into work for a three day weekend. It was also the last day I would have to clean and prepare my bike for a trip to Colorado on the following Monday. No big deal really. I just needed to clean it up a bit, and check the tire pressure. Much to my dismay, there seemed to be a nice puddle of oil below my left fork. Great. I decided to clean up the oil and wipe the fork clean and go for a short ride to see how bad it was. I returned from a 5-mile ride to find way too much oil leaking from the fork. Damn!

Texas Rangers BBQ

Rode down to Arlington, Tx a few weeks ago for Texas Ranger’s BBQ. Not baseball, but Don aka Texas Ranger’s BBQ at his home in Arlington. Texas Ranger and his wife Catfish were wonderful hosts. The food was plentiful, and the company was excellent. I didn’t get many photo’s but here is what I did take. You can check them out in this album in the photo gallery.

I made the trip with the Kansas five, but there were riders from New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and believe it or not…Washington State.

Ride Report: Let’s Roll, Mo.

Lets RollBy: John Bowman

The sun hadn’t yet risen over I-35 when Tim Ogilvie and I departed Edmond, Oklahoma for Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001. Before the sleepy folks of Edmond in their SUV’s began their headlong rush to get to work in Oklahoma City, we rode south on I-35 and exited to I-44, through Tulsa and into Missouri. Highway 60 in Springfield, Missouri was our next exit. It took us to Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri where we met Mike Sheehan and his wife at their home that evening. Mike created and planned “Let’s Roll, MO” and was to lead us to Pennsylvania and the crash site.

Ride Report: In Route to Inzane V

BanditFriday morning, July 15th, I zipped home from work and piled into bed for a short nap. I couldn’t sleep long because Bandit would be arriving soon and we had miles to travel! Inzane was calling, and we had some riding to do in Arkansas before we could answer that call.

Bandit, my good friend from New Mexico, arrived at my house in western Oklahoma just after noon. After arriving, Bandit was complaining about a noise he was hearing on his bike. He had heard this noise before he left home and suspected something wrong on the rear end. After removing everything and a thorough inspection, he found nothing obvious wrong. I took the bike for a spin(those of you that know Bandit know what a challenge THAT was) and suggested it might be a wheel bearing, but he assured me that wasn’t it. He decided to continue on with the trip and hoped to find the problem later.

NW Arkansas and SW Missouri

RumblebeeBy: Rumblebee

This ride was actually planned around the Promise Keepers convention in Fayetteville AR. My friend, Bill & I had ordered tickets back in February. Bill had re-injured his back the week before we left on June 10th. Being unsure about making the trip, he decided to bite the bullet and make the best of it.

It was Friday, June 10th for a late a.m. start, we left out of the OKC area and headed northeast via Route 66 to Stroud where we gassed up and grabbed a McD’s burger. Read the whole story…..

Destination: Pueblo Bike Rally & Pikes Peak
By: Gary Milburn

Garys ValkTook a nice overnighter trip to Pueblo, CO to attend a weekend rally billed as the Southern Colorado Bikefest.

Pueblo temp was running near 100 according to the windshield thermo. Slightly clouded sky with t-shirt and sunscreen in place. Made my way out toward La Veta Pass sometime after 9:00 am on Saturday with a quick stop for breakfast in Blanca. Continuing on 160E I connect with I-25 just long enough to hit Colorado City and on to Scenic Byway 165. This is a slightly longer trip to hit Pueblo but makes for the nicer run.
